Hamilton Aguiar

CV

Hamilton Aguiar lives in a world that activates the senses, a region where the on/off button is always on. All the sights and limitless vistas, smells, and sounds of the Floridian coast serve as tangible points of inspiration as he seeks to dissolve the wall between the outside and inside spaces, between the exterior reality and interiority of the artist’s soul. His subject matter runs the gamut between seascapes, landscapes, florals, and abstracts to evoke the natural elements of his hometown. For Aguiar, painting is the medium which most activates the senses to examine memory and association. Through the power of the paint and two-dimensional surface structure, Aguiar’s work digs deep into the human consciousness and its natural tendency toward paradox: the struggle to balance isolation versus connection; stillness versus hyperactivity; vitality versus distress. Aguiar’s unique additive processes submerge the viewer deep into the picture plane. Taking the design principle of rhythm, Aguiar’s work generates a sense of awe and wonder. He maintains strict technical control of the medium especially when using monochromatic gradation as a means to transmit a sense of stillness; his use of flat colors and subtle color modulations transport the viewer into ethereal environments inviting them into a graduated state of contemplation. 2021

Hamilton Aguiar’s work is widely exhibited by galleries, exhibition spaces, and national/international fairs across the United States, Latin America, and Europe. His work is seen in permanent collections such as, the Museum of Latin American Art, Long Beach, CA; FAMA-Fundacao Marcos Amaro, Sao Paolo, Brazil; Oppenheimer Funds, Rochester, NY; Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, Rochester, NY; as well as numerous private and public collections across the globe.
